ABB 07AC91 (GJR5252300R0101) I/O, Compatible System & Software

I/O Specifications

The 07AC91 module provides two selectable operating modes configured via onboard DIP switches.

Mode 1 (12-bit Resolution): 8 analog input channels + 8 analog output channels

Analog Input: Supports signal ranges of ±10 V DC and 0–20 mA. 4–20 mA signal acquisition is achievable through corresponding external library function blocks. It features 12-bit high resolution and independent per-channel configuration. 1500 Vrms galvanic isolation is implemented between the field side and CS31 bus to enhance anti-interference capability.

Analog Output: Supports ±10 V DC and 0–20 mA output ranges with 12-bit resolution. Each channel can be independently configured for voltage or current output to drive on-site actuators.

Mode 2 (8-bit Resolution): 16 total channels, configurable in pairs as either analog input or analog output

Analog Input: Compatible with 0–10 V DC and 0–20 mA signals at 8-bit resolution.

Analog Output: Supports 0–10 V DC and 0–20 mA output signals at 8-bit resolution.

Power & Diagnosis: The module operates on 24 V DC backplane power with a typical current consumption of 0.2 A. It integrates built-in diagnostic functions to detect channel open-circuit and short-circuit faults, and uploads real-time diagnostic status bits to the controller via the CS31 bus.

Compatible System

This module is part of the ABB Advant Controller 31 (AC31) series, serving as a remote I/O node connected to the system through the CS31 backplane bus. It is fully compatible with AC31 series CPUs including 07KR31, 07KR91, 07KT92, 07KT93 and 07KT94. It does not support AC800M controllers and 800xA DCS platforms. The module occupies up to 8 input words and 8 output words on the CS31 bus; in 8-bit operating mode, two analog data values are packaged into a single bus word for efficient transmission.

Compatible Software

The dedicated engineering software is 907 PC 331 (GJP5204500R0102), which is specially developed for programming, configuration and debugging of AC31 and CS31 system devices. It supports multiple programming standards including Ladder Diagram (LD), Function Block Diagram (FBD) and Extended Instruction List (Extended IL). The built-in ANAI4_20 library block is available for 4–20 mA signal conversion and processing.

The module operating mode is determined by hardware DIP switch settings, while signal range definition and control logic programming are completed in the 907 PC 331 project environment. This module is incompatible with Compact Control Builder and other engineering software for AC800M series systems.

ABB 07AC91 (GJR5252300R0101) Working Principle

Analog Input Operation

Standard analog signals including -10 V~+10 V voltage, 0–20 mA and 4–20 mA current are acquired from field sensors and transmitters. These incoming signals pass through integrated overvoltage and overcurrent protection circuits, followed by galvanic isolation and signal conditioning. The processed analog signals are then converted into standard digital values by the built-in A/D converter. Subsequently, the module transmits the digitized data to the AC31 CPU through the CS31 bus for real-time process monitoring, logical computation and interlock control.

Analog Output Operation

The AC31 controller outputs digital control commands to the 07AC91 module via the CS31 bus. The internal D/A converter converts digital setpoint values into standard analog voltage or current signals. After amplification and conditioning by the output drive circuit, the analog signals are transmitted to field actuators such as regulating valves and variable frequency drives, to achieve precise closed-loop adjustment of industrial process parameters.

Isolation and Fault Diagnosis

A 1500 Vrms galvanic isolation design is adopted between the field signal side and the internal bus circuit. This effectively suppresses on-site electromagnetic interference and isolates surge voltage, protecting the PLC backplane and internal control circuit from damage. The module is equipped with a dedicated hardware detection circuit, which continuously monitors working status including channel open circuit, short circuit and module power supply anomalies. Corresponding diagnostic status bits are uploaded to the controller for real-time fault alarming and quick troubleshooting.

Power Supply and Application Features

The module is powered by 24 V DC supplied through the PLC baseplate backplane bus. All channel groups support flexible AI/AO paired configuration according to on-site engineering requirements. With strong adaptability and stable operating performance, it is widely applicable to various analog signal acquisition and automatic control scenarios in industrial process automation systems.
